Unlocking Musicology: Narratives through Data

Description

The AHRC funded Unlocking Musicology project has applied novel methods and tools across a wealth of digital music and music-related data. This data can take many forms - including live performances, audio recordings, musical scores, catalogue records, and scanned images - and can often be apparently incompatible, incomplete, and sometimes even incorrect. Yet within this data is a wealth of musical experience and knowledge, waiting to be unlocked.

How can we use digital tools to create narratives through this data to better access, explore, and understand the musical information within? Working with partners from across the cultural heritage sector, the AHRC Unlocking Musicology project has been investigating these questions and will present its results at this informal public event.

The evening will begin with a series of short talks and demonstrations exploring narratives drawn through data from the Internet Archive Live Music Archive, the British Library, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the Delius Trust, and Répertoire International de Littérature Musicale (RILM). After the presentations, we invite you to join the project team for drinks and light refreshments, and try out the digital tools for yourselves!
